I just finished reading Imagined London: A Tour of the World's Greatest Fictional City by Anna Quindlen. Author Quindlen has always been fascinated by the city of London, which she was intimately familiar with through reading classics set in London. Yet, in 1995, until she was 43 she had not been there. When she finally went to London, she said, "it felt less like an introduction and more like a homecoming." Quindlen takes us on a literary tour of the city through her eyes as well as through the writings by great authors who wrote about and set their stories in London.
During my first visit to London circa 1989 Quindlen's "it felt less like an introduction and more like a homecoming" was identical to my feelings.
